Norman & Ernest Spittle / Art Fittings Ltd. charger, Birmingham England circa 1903. A rare and important hammered copper charger with a spiraling leaf and berry motif around a sunken central section. This charger was one of a handful bought by Gustav Stickley in 1903 and brought back to form the foundation of his metalworking studio. This specific charger was never put into formal production by the Craftsman Workshops yet was illustrated in May 1903 interior line drawings in the Craftsman Magazine. This is a well documented form illustrated in the Spittle catalog and their Art Fitting retailer advertisements, currently the only known example of this form. Excellent condition and original patina with some touch up work. Measures 15.25” wide. SOLD
