NORMAN & ERNEST SPITTLE / ART FITTINGS LTD

Norman & Ernest Spittle opened their metal shop in Birmingham England in the late 1890s. By 1900, The Studio Magazine was featuring their copper work and praising their designs & workmanship. A period catalog shows the depth of their line from household objects to lighting to architectural installations. It is believed the Art Fittings Ltd firm of London represented the Spittles work and this has likely lead to the confusion over the true origins of their work & its influence on the American work of Gustav Stickley.
