Joseph Maria Olbrich
Wall Clock, Darmstadt circa 1900/1901
Measures 21” tall, 15” wide and 6” deep.
We have been unable to source a period photo, the front is identical to a known Olbrich mantle clock he made in Vienna. This clock has the addition of the carvings which are quite similar to his “wrap around” carvings and circular designs on wood he made in Darmstadt around 1900 and 1901. The stair-step horizontal wood carvings are also seen in his vitrine cabinets and furniture from this same period. See below for several period images of items with similar design motifs and construction.
