Lucy F. Walker color woodblock, Berkeley CA circa 1912. Entitled “Trees and Hills” this is a quintessential California image of a large hillside oak grove with distant hills and clouds in yellows and oranges. Lucy Walker is listed in Edna Hughes as an art teacher born in Coulterville, TN, she moved to California and graduated from the California School of Arts & Crafts in Berkeley in 1912. She was a resident of Fresno, CA from 1913 and taught at Reedley High School. William Rice was a teacher at the CSAC and he clearly had an influence on her work as seen in this woodblock with its heavy black outlines and strong colors. See images below of the CSAC 1915 Yearbook with her Alumni status. Excellent condition, one minor ripple in upper left corner, reframed in a dark oak original finish period frame with new acid free backing and mat, museum glass. Frame measures 19” by 16” and image in 10” by 7”. SOLD
