Elizabeth Eaton Burton leather table mat, Santa Barbara CA circa 1902. An exceptionally rare and unique leather table mat depicting a Japanese inspired lotus pond. Burton had a patent on this process of burnt leatherwork as seen on this piece. She would use this process to highlight the design and finish with small stitching, dyes and paint. This work is unsigned, but identical in workmanship and finishes to signed period work that has surfaced, we have provided some visuals from the Burton book. Excellent overall condition, leather very soft and pliable. Truly one of the finest pieces of Arts & Crafts leatherwork to surface. Measures 22.5” wide and 17” deep. SOLD
