Ludwig Vierthaler for Winhart & Co. jardiniere, Munich circa 1903. One of four known examples with one in the Munich State Museum, this incredibly rare and enormous hammered copper jardiniere is the pinnacle of Munich jugendstil design. Hand formed copper jardiniere, the body is finished with hammering around the central anemone designs on each side. The anemones are hand worked and finished with purple enamel as seen in all the known examples. The sides are adorned with two large bronze starfish that raise from the body, each finished with white enamel inset spotting & stars. The copper has the original reddish brown to black patina, a specialty of Vierthaler for his pieces. Signed in pen with a model number. Excellent condition, some old (perhaps period) touch ups to the purple enamel. Reference photos below of published museum and period illustrations of this form, this is the largest known Vierthaler object to surface. Measures 20” wide with handles, 13” tall and an opening of 11.5”. SOLD
