Ludwig Vierthaler for Winhart & Co. copper “jellyfish” jardiniere, Munich Germany circa 1905. A large and very rare hammered copper jardiniere featuring jellyfish rising from the depths, these also have the look of Octopus tentacles. The six jellyfish are further accentuated by three large waves pulsing from the copper giving extra movement to the form; these are placed symmetrically apart around the upper perimeter. This form is completely handmade of thick copper, hammered throughout with fully rolled rim. Stunning original green & brown patina, a hallmark of early Vierthaler work. Jellyfish were a favorite theme of Ernst Haeckel in his inspirational work for the Munich Secession. One of the finest Vierthaler sea forms to surface & the only known example. Measures 11.25” high and 16” wide. SOLD
