Richard Riemerschmid candlestick for the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk, Munich circa 1900. The most iconic of Art Nouveau candlesticks from the era, this brass candlestick has a swirling base, the shaft a rising poppy with a small nub just before the holder. The candlestick was illustrated in period art journals around 1899 and became the inspiration for the forthcoming Arts & Crafts candle designs, especially from Robert Jarvie in Chicago. This candlestick is held in museums around the world, this example is pristine with a deep original burnished brown patina and strong mold markings.
