Harry Dixon for Lillian Palmer copper double wall “scarab” sconce, San Fransisco circa 1914. The Palmer Copper Shop material is strictly based on attributions derived from period photos and material from homes in the bay area as nothing has turned up signed. This wonderful sconce has several factors supporting this attribution; the one known shop photo (see below) illustrated a variety of sconces on the back wall, a favorite form for the shop who specialized in lighting fixtures. There are a handful of double sconces, two of which feature this smaller flared copper canopy & flattened copper arches, as seen on this example. Additionally, the early Palmer Shop work found around the bay area uses this fine wire mesh on the cut-out openings. This sconce was found at the Alameda Flea Market in the East Bay, likely fresh from a local home. The hammered copper sconce has amazing details in the construction & design, each canopy with three winged scarab cut-out patterns. Fine new patina, newly rewired and ready for installation. Measures 14” tall, 10” wide & around 5” deep. SOLD
