desk lamp and lidded jar, Munich circa 1905.
A rare hammered copper and enamel desk lamp. This identical shade was pictured on a variant base in a German art periodical, possibly a larger version. This lamp came from a Berlin collection, the only known example to surface. Shade of finely hammered copper with swirling dot decorations around the body and leading to domed cap, deep blue enamel in recesses. There are three birds around the shade, all done in enamels in shades of blue, black, maroon and white. Shade fitted to a ribbed copper shaft and weighted base. Beaded gold glass fringe, added by owner decades prior due to loses on original beading. There are minor enamel losses to one bird and a few blue roundels (see images), could be expertly attended to if desired. One of only a few known Vierthaler light fixtures. Measures 20” tall and shade is 9” wide. $9,500
