George ScheideMantel double frame, East Aurora NY circa 1915. We are confident this is the mark of Roycroft artisan George ScheideMantel who studied under Frederick Kranz at Roycroft. He ran the Cordova Shop in 1915 before taking over the Roycroft shop from 1915 to 1918 and then opened his own shop at his home, which is now the Elbert Hubbard Museum. The large double frame has a tooled leather cover in the early style of Roycroft, magnificent design and workmanship. The frame opens to reveal two 6” by 4” openings with the original plastic sleeves intact. The frame can be laid flat or propped up for display. The back is signed in lower left corner with his GS initials. Overall excellent condition, mild wear to central section, still quite soft and sturdy. Measures 9” tall and 7” wide closed. $1,450
