Eva Macomber copper & enamel sconce, Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston, MA circa 1908. A very rare sconce from this important Boston maker, illustrating masterful workmanship. This attribution is made from known attributed examples of her work as seen in the recent publication on Boston enamel work. Macomber had a very unique style where she would craft large hand raised copper lines to form the outlines of a design, similar to cloisonné, and then fill in the openings with enamel. She was also a very accomplished metalworker, unlike many of the Boston enamelers, which is clear in the overall execution of this hammered copper sconce. Her enamels had many rich color variations in each panel as seen in this galleon. The copper work is fully hand worked, with raised floral decorations, mimicked in the bobeché. The reverse is finished with a large copper back plate. Original red patina, enamel in excellent condition. Measures 9.5” tall and 6” wide. SOLD
