A. Frederick Doerrie vase, San Fransisco dated 1912. We have recently discovered the existence of this previous unknown metalworking shop in the Bay Area from a single advertisement in the EMANU-EL magazine from March of 1914, alongside a Dirk Van Erp ad showing they were a few miles apart in the city. The advertisement illustrates a Van Erp styled cobra lamp, one wonders what other unsigned bay area work was produced at this shop? This eucalyptus vase pre-dates the Fred Brosi, Hans Jauchens & Old Mission Kopper Kraft objects by several years, we believe this vase to be an early inspiration for their later work or perhaps one of them worked for Doerrie.

The hammered copper body is mounted with two large copper leafs with a handmade seed pod, not cast. These are finished in a deep green patina which also adorns the copper vase around the attachments, the remainder finished in an original dark brown patina. The back side has his etched signature and is also signed S.F. 1912. Excellent original condition. This is the only known signed Doerrie object and one of the finest examples of San Fransisco Eucalyptus metalwork. Measures 10” tall and 5” wide. SOLD
