Arts & Crafts hammered copper & brass coal bin circa 1905. A stunning masterpiece of metalwork, this coal bin is likely Scottish having traits of the Glasgow school work, yet also has much in common with the secessionist work of Germany & Austrian at the time. The body tapers inward towards a flat top featuring a pivoting central lid. The body is outlined in hammered brass with true rivets across the entire form. Hand worked copper panels have then been centered in interior sleeves and riveted behind the brass body. The sides are adorned with two hammered brass handles. The back and sides feature a stylized hammered decoration, the front has a sensational hammered & repoussé scene of a sailboat on waves with a lighthouse and land in the background. Some of the finest copper work we have ever seen. A large form measuring 14” tall, 12” deep at base and 17” wide at base. New patina. SOLD
