Benedict Art Studio copper table lamp, East Syracuse NY circa 1907. In our research, this appears to be the only known example of this exceedingly rare form to come to market. This form is not pictured in the Benedict reprint catalog, but is a larger and more elaborate version of lamp No.3 (larger, two socket vs. one, extra detailing throughout). It was very typical for Benedict to craft unique versions of their forms as seen here, this lamp has all the attributes of these large lamps. The shaft is constructed of four hammered panels detailed with repoussé floral designs, these panels are supported with riveted corner strips. The shaft flares and is riveted to a heavy hammered iron or brass base detailed with more floral patterns. The flat arms are unique to Benedict lamps, supporting a large four sided shade with an extra panel of vertical glass mounted under a detailed hammered copper border. The “cats paw” glass is all original and in mint condition. Original patina throughout. One of the finest lamps from the Arts & Crafts movement. Measure 24” tall and shade is 14.5” square. SOLD
